KUHN’s centre pivot trailed mower conditioner now available with added grouper function

KUHN Farm Machinery has added a grouper version of its 3.1 metre disc mower conditioner to its line-up of centre pivot trailed machines.

Ideally suited to large scale farming operations and grassland contractors, the FC 3160 TCD RA offers all the key advantages associated with KUHN’s standard centre pivot mower conditioner (the FC 3160 TCD), such as greater mowing versatility and reduced ‘dead time’ on headlands, as well as having the ability to group two swathes of grass together.

The FC 3160 TCD RA uses a conveyor belt grouper unit that enables two rows of grass to be placed together to form a twin swath for increased output of the subsequent forage harvester.  The conveyor also enables two rows of grass to be formed into a single, layered swath that can be picked up by balers or loader wagons with a narrower pick-up width.

“The addition of a belt conveyor to KUHN’s tried and tested centre pivot mower conditioner saves times and fuel by reducing the number of subsequent passes needed with a grass rake or forage harvester,” explains Duncan McLeish, KUHN’s UK Sales Manager. “It also reduces leaf losses and prevents soil or foreign materials being incorporated into the swath during raking.”

Mr McLeish also explains that, thanks to its centre pivot design, the FC 3160 TCD RA offers significant operational advantages over conventional side-pull machines. “Their ability to operate on either side of the tractor enables centre pivot machines to work across the field rather than setting it out at the headlands. This can reduce the working time for each field by as much as 15% by virtually eliminating the ‘dead time’ spent travelling at the headlands. It also reduces traffic on headlands thereby preventing headland swaths from being flattened or contaminated by soil from the tractor’s wheels, and reduces soil compaction.”

The hydraulically driven grouper belt on the FC 3160 TCD RA is powered by a pump mounted on the machine’s GYRODINE swivelling headstock and can deliver the cut and conditioned crop to either side of the machine. The speed of the conveyor belt can be instantly increased or decreased to take account of the amount of crop being cut or to alter the width of the finished swath when working on sloping terrain.

The FC 3160 TCD RA can also be used in conjunction with a front mounted mower conditioner such as the FC 3125 DF for increased work output, with the centre pivoting design allowing the rearward unit to operate to either the left or right of the front mower.

The new machine uses seven cutting discs (each fitted with KUHN’s FAST-FIT knives as standard) giving it a 3.1 metre working width and a 2.99 metre travelling width. The speed of the steel finger conditioning flails can be set at either 780 or 1,000 rpm according to the crop being worked.

All functions – such as belt speed, direction of delivery and lifting options – can be adjusted from the comfort of the tractor cab via a central control box. The FC 3160 TCD RA is also fitted with wide profile, low-pressure tyres for reduced soil compaction and improved performance on sloping ground.

The starting retail price for the FC 3160 TCD RA is £35,165.

Kuhn Farm Machinery has launched a new version
of its popular fixed chamber round baler, the FB 2135
MKII, with a range of new features designed at
improving baling speed, quality and efficiency.

The latest version of the FB 2135 is available with two different intake rotors – the OPTIFEED or OPTICUT 14 – both of which share the same 2.30m pick-up width for maximum productivity.

The OPTIFEED rotor uses double feeding tines and integrated augers to provide an even and consistent flow of crop into the bale chamber for improved bale consistency. The OPTICUT 14 rotor is fitted with 14 knives which provide a theoretical cutting length of 70mm and which even out the swath by force-feeding the crop into the baler for maximum throughput. Each single knife is spring-protected against damage from foreign objects.

“Reliability, bale quality and bale density are fundamental to the efficiency of all baling operations,” Duncan McLeish, Kuhn’s UK Sales Manager explains. “Every minute counts when weather conditions are uncertain so the FB 2135 has been updated to provide improvements in all aspects of baling.

“The new machines feature several unique innovations such as Kuhn’s PENDULUM pick-up system, POWERTRACK roller and INTEGRAL ROTOR technology, all of which make a real difference to field performance.”

Kuhn’s PENDULUM pick-up gathers the densest of swaths at high forward speeds and has height adjustable guide wheels for accurately carrying the pick-up over every ground contour.

The Kuhn POWERTRACK system uses 14 steel rollers with an asymmetrical profile and a unique ribbed profile for optimal crop traction and compression to ensure reliable bale rotation and minimal stoppages. The rollers are produced from high-grade steel and are constructed from two overlapped pressed sections, which are fully seam-welded for maximum rigidity. Radial support rings located inside each roller creates additional strength, while the end plate and roller stub shafts are forged in one piece.

Kuhn’s INTEGRAL ROTOR is a maintenance-free and short distance intake system which ensures even feeding regardless of variations in crop quality. With this system, even the heaviest crops are forced through the intake, resulting in higher forward speeds for improved productivity.

The FB 2135 MKII also features Kuhn’s hydraulic POWERLOCK rear door cylinders, which work in combination with a hydraulic lock valve to produce maximum bale density. Fast door opening and closing means more bales per hour and improved efficiency.

The intake unit of the FB 2135 MKII is protected by a main PTO clutch which is automatically activated if a blockage occurs. In addition, the complete cutting floor – including the knives – can be lowered to allow blockages to be cleared.

The Merlo Telescopic Handler 42.7 Hybrid has been awarded a gold medal by the experts from the independent
Agritechnica Innovations Commission, and was announced by the German Agricultural Society (DLG).
The Merlo Hybrid was chosen among 400 innovations that were submitted thanks to its practical application, consumption
& pollution reduction.
In brief because it’s a product that better interprets the evolution of modern agriculture.

It will be characterized by high degree of versatility and can be used both indoors and outdoors:

  • Indoors: Greenhouses, cattle sheds and food processing;
  • Outdoors: any application since it can work in both a full electric and a hybrid mode.

The relevant advantages can be summarized as follows:

  • Ensuring the performance level of conventional Merlo machines
  • Reducing fuel consumption
  • Reducing noise emissions
  • Reducing pollution

The Hybrid is equipped with a diesel engine with less than 56 kW instead of 100kW or more. It does not require any installation of a urea system, allowing the machine to work in a full electric mode for indoor operations with an astonishing average autonomy of operation as follows:

  • 4 hours in Eco mode
  • 2 hours in full electric

It offer a modular solution which can be integrated in the current layout of Merlo machines and extend this application to the whole future range of Merlo telehandlers.
The performance level of conventional Merlo machines is guaranteed in terms of acceleration, pulling force, maximum speed, load handling time and load capacity.
Fuel consumption in an average work cycle is reduced by at least 30% compared to conventional Merlo machine.
Noise emissions are signifi cantly lower in the hybrid mode, because the Diesel engine runs at low rpm. Furthermore, noise emissions in the full electric mode are close to zero, as they are comparable to background noise in the work environment. Pollution is reduced because a smaller engine is used at a steady rpm for work stages whose specifi fuel consumption is low. Furthermore, the batteries can be recharged from either the mains or local solar panel energy network installed by the end user, allowing the vehicle to work always in a full electric mode with no exhaust emissions.

Repeated tests, performed both on test benches and on a test track, have proved that operation in the full electric mode guarantees the traction and lifting performance required, and it allows the vehicle to be used indoor with an autonomy of a few hours depending on the type of activity to be carried out.
Considering the fuel saving that the new Merlo hybrid system ensures Vs the correspondent “traditional” version with only thermic engine, the payback for the owner is of about two years (depending of course on the number of hours and of the kind of activity).

T6 drives off for quick round of seed drilling at Pennard Golf Course

Perched 200 feet up on the cliffs of the south Wales coast, overlooking some of the UK’s most beautiful shoreline, Pennard Golf Club describes itself perfectly as the “links in the sky”.

One of the most important tasks at the end of the summer season is replenishing the fairways’ grass with a seed drill in October; a job for which speed is the essence to minimise disruption to players but without risking damage to the carefully manicured surface.

The solution came with a T6.140 tractor – the perfect utility workhorse balancing power with sure-footedness.

Fitted with extra wide Trelleborg tyres for minimal ground pressure, the T6.140 had the power to pull the heavy seeder and drill the fairways with 80 bags of seed – all in just one pass. The task was done in a week.

With its strong four-cylinder engine, the T6.140 joins a range whose power-to-weight ratio is as low as 28.6kg/hp (CV) – essential for reducing soil compaction and with the added benefit of fuel-sipping efficiency too.

The T6.140 also boasts Engine Power Management to make life even easier. Essentially, the engine develops more power and torque according to the actual load on the transmission, hydraulics and PTO. It optimises performance and improves fuel consumption even more.

The Horizon™ Cab, with optional Comfort Ride™ cab suspension, offers outstanding ergonomic comfort and exceptional visibility, which is improved by the high visibility roof hatch.
